Ford Bronco Filson edition in bronze at the New England reveal event

Bronco Filson First Look: Stealth Wealth on 35s, and the Coat That Got Me

Ford brought the Bronco Filson to New England last week, and the venue choice tells you everything about the strategy: two trucks, including a First Edition in that exclusive Iron Sands Copper Metallic, parked outside a restaurant in Boston’s Seaport on a BEAUTIFUL fall-crisp day, with the Filson store thrown open for the occasion. Ford reps walked us through the trucks, we sat in them, we asked everything we wanted, and then I walked into Filson and spent $300 on a coat because I loved it. That last part is not a footnote. That last part is the whole business case, demonstrated on me in real time.

What is the Bronco Filson?

Target priceMid-$70,000s, above every Bronco but the Raptor

The event setup matched the truck’s ambition: painted jerry cans in every launch color lined up like a paint chip display you could pick up, and, the detail that stuck with me, Filson’s original prototype of the door side bag on display. This collaboration has apparently been in the works for over five years. That is not a badge-engineering timeline. That is a product-development timeline.

The stealth wealth thesis

Standing next to it, this truck perfectly embodies what I think Filson conveys: stealth wealth. It LOOKS nice without screaming in your face. Put together, professional, brawny, outdoorsy, without everyone in the room knowing what you paid. That is the Filson brand in a sentence, most of their gear, short of the hats, does not even carry the name on the outside. It is a truly if-you-know-you-know operation, and Ford built the truck version of that.

And the First Edition color is mega. Think Lexus Copper Crest, but a little smoother, and it works with the Filson’s bronze accents beautifully. The genuine Filson touches are concentrated in three places, and they are all bags: bags in the doors instead of nets, bags behind the seats instead of map pockets, and bags in the trunk. Beyond that it is badging and unique colors, but those three bag systems are real Filson design, not applique.

What is it like to sit in?

You feel good. I used to own a two-door manual base Bronco, and the fit, finish, and materials in the Filson are a cut above anything in the regular range. Because it rides on the Sasquatch hardware, you also sit on top of the world. Ford says it went to great lengths to cut wind noise in this truck, about 20 percent less than the original by their measure, and I will be honest: parked in a lot, that is impossible to verify, other than to say opening and closing the doors feels different from other Broncos. Denser. The full verdict on that claim waits for a week in the driveway.

Then Filson sold me a coat

The marketing closed its loop on the marketer-aware reviewer. Browsing the store, touching the materials, you start to understand why Ford picked this partner: Grade A materials, Grade A quality, products you buy once and keep forever, with prices to match, plenty of coats north of $400.

So I moseyed to my favorite section of any premium store, the outlet corner, and caught a red plaid coat out of the corner of my eye that looked like it might be my size. As a 6-foot, 315-pound man, finding anything at a premium store in my size is rare. I tried it on and it fit like the best glove money can buy. Then the salesman came over: “Whoa, we aren’t supposed to have that.” A pre-expansion Filson jacket, apparently, from an earlier era of the company. He could have been selling me snake oil and I would have bought it anyway, I could barely hear the history lesson over my own excitement, because this never happens to people my size. I left with my wallet hurting and a large brown bag with a lovely coat inside.

The MoneyShift take

This partnership makes a ton of sense, and Ford should expand it to other vehicles. Filson is an American luxury outdoors brand that lends a credibility in build quality and materials that money cannot buy directly, and borrowing credibility is a play Ford has run forever: Eddie Bauer, Cartier, King Ranch. Align with the brand that owns the vertical, and take what they have earned. The difference here is that the execution goes deeper than embroidery, five years of development, real Filson-designed storage, and a color story that holds together.

Who buys it? A gas Rivian buyer. The exact person you just pictured, that is who this truck is for. Who else? Me. I would buy this. If anyone out there has a First Edition allocation at sticker they would part with, my inbox is open. Full review the moment one lands in the driveway.

FAQ

How much will the Ford Bronco Filson cost?
Ford is targeting a starting price in the mid-$70,000s, above every Bronco except the roughly $82,000 Raptor. Final pricing comes when order banks open this fall.

What makes the Bronco Filson First Edition special?
An exclusive Iron Sands Copper Metallic paint, a serialized console badge, and a unique fender badge. The Filson itself is a permanent trim; only the First Edition is scarce.

Is the Bronco Filson just a Raptor with leather?
No, and this surprised me: per Ford’s own people, it shares more with a Badlands than a Raptor. Same 3.0L V6, but standard track width, 35s instead of 37s, and even different wheel bolt patterns than the Raptor.

When can you buy the Bronco Filson?
Order banks open in fall 2026, with deliveries beginning in early 2027.

What are the actual Filson parts on the truck?
Three bag systems, door bags instead of nets, seatback bags instead of map pockets, and trunk cargo bags, plus badging and exclusive colors. The bags were in development for over five years.
